Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
Anabolicus: cheers dude.
Bulky: the farmers walks were a lot harder than I anticipated that is for sure!!
Trained tonight. Upper DE
Thick bar DB row
BB bicep curl - purely to get the bar ready for presses.
65kg x1 - I think that is a PB, and I could have done more.
Db bicep curl
22kg x2 - arms and energy gone
This came on on the first set of OHP's and got me going.
Jono: I loved farmers walks since I was doing them carrying buckets of water on the farm.
Jono: I rarely do curls when I'm fresh so this was a turn up for the books.
Philo: Cheers dude.
Big few weeks of travel and lack of energy. Hoping to come out of it over the next couple of weeks.
145kg x5 Felt like I was going to faint or throw up. Not used to high reps at all.
SL standing calf raise
20kg x10x2 these feel better on the knee now, hammys were toast by now though.
Ben: Fancied a change.
Bulky: Actually it wasn't so bad, mainly the hammys. Next day it was all hammys.
Jono: High reps are brand new to me.
Coo5: Thanks dude.
Felt good this evening. Pin presses felt good, lockouts felt heavy (need to do more of these in preparation for a bench PB), and pullups just flew.
130kg x1 PB
135kg xfail got greedy, should have been 132.5kg
Close grip lockouts - to get the feel of heavier stuff again and work the triceps
140kg x5 felt like a tonne
145kg x3 felt lighter
155kg x2 the second rep was tough
BB bicep curl
Essensen I'm not really doing the CG lockouts for mass or anything. I want an exercise for triceps, one that won't mess up my elbow, and one that prepares me for handling heavier weights.
See I have improved my strength and am set for a PB attempt soon. But over the course of the last training cycle I haven't lifted/held/ unracked anything heavy. It was a huge effort to unrack the first CG set last night, a weight I'm meant to be surpassing on a normal bench press.
Even conservatively I should be able to press 10% more than I pin press, yet that felt really heavy. So I need to acclimatise to the weight and I will do similar with the squat. Deadlift doesn't bother me as much for some reason.
In terms of CG lockouts being a mass builder? Well they definitely add strength, but being a short ROM the carryover to mass and general strength will be limited. Higher reps is definitely the go with any partial to get some benefit. I've found floor presses are fine with lower reps, but not lockouts nor low stepups.
Cheers Tonka. I'm really liking what I'm able to do with my chinups now. A bit of work on getting muscle recruitment happening and I can actually get my lower traps involved in the chin. This has really helped with my shoulders and keeping them healthy.
Speaking of healthy, I'm feeling anything but. I must have a flu as I have a slight fever and just feel generally crap. So my training today has involved sucking down a heap of carbs and sleeping most of the afternoon. Definitely taking the day off tomorrow.
