Evander - A 56-year-old woman implicated in a botched hijacking has been remanded until her next court appearance on Wednesday.
Elizabeth Nsibande of Embalenhle, Extension 2 was arrested near Evander, Mpumalanga, on January 20 following the botched hijacking of a Toyota Hilux double cab.
Evander police spokesperson Constable Sibusiso Mbuli said the motorist was shot at when he approached a stop sign, but was able to speed off and alert security guards at a nearby mine.
"The security guards quickly called the police, but when our members arrived on the scene, the suspect had already disappeared," he said.
They tracked down Nsibande after a witness claimed to have seen her running into the veld.
"When we confronted her, we found a pistol in her handbag and arrested her," said Mbuli.
The pistol was sent for ballistic tests in Pretoria.
Mbuli said police were investigating whether she may have been involved in any other hijackings or house break-ins in the area.
Nsibande was not asked to plead to charges of attempted hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm when she appeared in the Evander Magistrate's Court on Friday.
