Metabolic rate is the speed at which we burn calories in our body. Calories fuel our daily activities as well the functioning of internal organs. Those people who have higher fat content in the body have a slower metabolism rate than a muscular person. The reason is that muscles use up more calories to stay active than fats. A study has proven that one pound of fat uses up only two calories per day while one pound muscle devours 50 calories!

What is BMR?
BMR or Basal Metabolic Rate is the amount of calories required by your body to maintain internal functions when it is at rest. The body utilizes about three quarter of its energy in performing internal functions when it is at rest. BMR depends on various external factors including age, sex, and the amount of muscle in the body. Younger the person is, higher is the metabolic rate, which is why infants have a very high rate of metabolism. Moreover, men tend to have a higher rate of metabolism than women due to the presence of lean muscles.

BMR can be calculated using the following formulae:

Male = [ 66+(13.7 x weight in kgs) + (5 x height in cms) – (6.8 x age) ]

Female = [ 655+(9.6 x weight in kgs) + (1.7 x height in cms) – (4.7 x age) ]

How to increase the rate of metabolism?
• Eat about 5-6 short meals a day because staying hungry for a long time reduces metabolic activity. Research has confirmed that the person who tends to eat frequently during the day has leaner muscle tissues.
• Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day in order to maintain the rate of metabolism. It proven that drinking water increases your metabolic activity by 30 percent compared to staying dry.
• Have more proteins in your diet as they take a longer time to digest than carbohydrates or fat.
• Try to avoid alcohol as much as possible.
• Consume a mixture of apple cider vinegar, garlic and honey. It is a natural way to boost your metabolism.

Not trying to be a downer or anything but I am pretty sure that avoiding alcohol abuse is about the only thing on there that is proven to make a difference on metabolism. I know that eating frequently has been recently shown to have little/no effect, the water isnt going to make that much of a difference, the more protein isnt going to improve metabolism past a certain point, and the last cocktail at the bottom looks like its out of a fairy tale. Metabolism is something that I probably shouldnt get started on lol.

Not trying to come off as a dick, just want to make sure that people have correct info. I am sure that some of those things make slight differences under the correct circumstances but most of them were thought to have an impact at one point but have recently been shown to do little.

Oh and the statement that one lb of muscle burns an extra 50 calories a day is not true. It was once thought that it was this much but recent studies have SHOWN it is more like 6-7 calories per day at rest. Still enough to add up but not nearly as much as everyone makes it out to be.

I wouldn't worry Creator. It isn't as though he ever replies to any of the comments about the articles he posts. I think we have made several comments about previous posts he has made and nothing has come of it. As far as I can tell he is only trying to drum up traffic to his site.

I have half a mind to ban him actually.

that article was fairly simplistic, grammatically weird, and fairly incorrect. Sorry
