Friday was a very busy day at this year’s Arnold Europe: over 20 champions were crowned and three overall winners. These overall winners are: Cristina Arellano (Spain) in Women’s Physique, Diogo Montenegro (Brazil) in Men’s Physique and Sergey Khalepo (Russia) in Men’s Classic Bodybuilding. In Men’s Physique division there were 6 categories with 6 champions from different countries! Five champions were from Europe and one from South America and the overall title went to him.
In Classic Bodybuilding overall the battle was so closed that top two competitors: Cristian Martinez (Spain) and Sergey Khalepo (Russia) were tied 8:8 and the Relative Placement Method had to be applied to set up the winner (Khalepo). To make the situation more dramatic, Khalepo lost the first two rounds in his category (over 180 cm) to Slovenian bodybuilder Bostjan Renko and won only by better scores in the routine round!
The other extremely close and exciting duels:
Jose Carlos Rebolo (Portugal) vs..Wolfgang Schober (Austria) in Master’s Bodybuilding 50-59 years old. Both are former world champions, both are great! This time Rebolo showed perfect body conditions and won all rounds but by 1-2 points only.
Farhang Rahimly (Sweden) took the 7[SUP]th[/SUP] place at the 2010 Masters Worlds in 50-59 category. Turned 60 this year and… dethroned unbeatable in the last years Rafael Vera (Spain) in over 60 category. But, telling the truth, Vera is 69 and this is an important difference.
Alina Cepurniene Lithuania vs. Federica Ortu (Italy). Former world bodybuilding champion, Cepurniene, moved to Women’s Physique recently and won Amateur Olympia in Prague last June. In Madrid she clashed with Ortu, who participated in the IFBB event for the first time (was the world figure champion in other organization). Extremely close battle resolved for Cepurniene in the last round.
Diogo Montenegro (Brazi)l vs. Alexande Myrvold (Norway). 2014 Arnold Classic South America winner, Montenegro, added to his collection the next Arnold victory, winning over the current European champion, Myrvold, by 2 points only. Then Myrvold won the Juniors Men’s Physique category 9:12 over Mariusz Janucik who won this year’s Polish Newcomer Championships.
The other three Men’s Physique categories finished with one-point victories.
-****** Up to*175 cm: Gregory Mondor (France) vs. Juan Faro Barro (Spain) – 11:12
-****** Up to*178 cm: Grzegorz Placzkowski (Poland) vs. Andrea Mosti (Italy) – 11:12
-****** Up to*184 cm: Jelani Ask (Norway) vs. Tyrone Sontowski (Germany) – 14:15
And Men’s Bodybuilding. In up to 70 kg class all three top places went to Spanish bodybuilders: Antonio Herrera, Miguel Lopez and Francisco Castillo.
Up to 75 kg category title was grasped by last year’s winner Ariel Guong (originally form Philippines, now Kuwait). He also won the 2014 Amateur Mr. Olympia.
Up to 80 kg category: incredible battle of Eric Kafindo (Belgium) and* Alex Zuccaro (Italy). Finally, they both were tied 36:36, with final victory of Kafindo. What’s interesting, the first round was won by someone else: Abdullah Boudastor (Kuwait).
Similar situation in the 85 kg class: Ilya Goroshko (Russia) won the first round but then slightly lost the next two rounds to Oscar Ferriols of Spain.
Up to 90 kg category: triumphant return to the top of the 2011 European champion Zoran Kolevski (Macedonia) who was completely unsuccessful in 2012 and 2014. He won both final rounds with perfect scores!
Three heaviest bodybuilding categories will be run tomorrow. And much more… Stay tuned!
