Kra Thom Na (Mitragyna javanica)
is a small tree found in Southeast Asia. While Mitragyna javanica has a similar appearance to the Mitragyna speciosa (Kratom), there are huge differences in their chemistry. Mitragyna javanica does not contain the main alkaloids mitragynine and ajmalicine, but similar compounds called mitrajavine and large amounts of 3-isoajmalicine.
Kra Thom Kok (Mitragyna Hirsuta
is a tall tree found in parts of Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. Itís closely related to Mitragyna speciosa and the leaves have similar paradoxical effects: both stimulating and sedative aroma at the same time.
In Thailand itís called kra thum khok and the leaves are chewed, sometimes together with betel nuts (Areca catechu), or brewed with hot water. The plant contains a number of alkaloids but the main active constituent in Mitragyna hirsuta is Mitraphylline, which is chemically related to mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine found in M. speciosa.
the confirmed activity of the whole seed extract in humans, this makes it likely that akuammine is in fact being metabolised once inside the body to form an active metabolite, in a similar way to how the closely related compound mitragynine is metabolised to the more active 7-hydroxymitragynine.
