Christopher Lee - To Release Metal Album
Sir Christopher Lee is to become Christopher Cheese once more.

The project is called Charlemagne. It is the story of King Charlemagne, First Holy Roman Emperor, acted and sung by the legendary actor Christopher Lee. Sir Christopher is the highest grossing actor of all time, with cinematic milestones such as "Lord Of The Rings", "Star Wars", "The Man with the Golden Gun" and "Dracula", amongst over 280 movies - and still counting!

The Carandinis, Lee's maternal ancestors, were given the right to bear the coat of arms of the Holy Roman Empire by the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. Through his Carandini ancestors, Christopher Lee has a direct link to Charlemagne, and has decided for the first time in his life to pay homage to his distinguished ancestor, who is credited as "The Father of Europe".

Charlemagne is a concept album with original words and symphonic metal music.

Composer Marco Sabiu, best known for his collaborations with Kylie Minogue, Take That, Pavarotti, Morricone, has created a truly epic canvas by introducing modern metal symphonies, in a style which resembles a movie score. Marie-Claire Calvet, a graduate from Bristol University, transports the listener into "The Dark Ages", with a very powerful storyline and mesmerising lyrics. A full orchestra, heavy metal musicians, choir and special guest vocalists bring the legend of Charlemagne to life.

Sir Christopher Lee has also collaborated with Rhapsody Of Fire in the past, and lists his influences as: Manowar, Rhapsody Of Fire, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Hammerstein, Movie Scores and Symphonic Metal.

The album will be released on the 15th of March 2010.

He has a very good voice and is classically trained. Good example here:

^^ Metal Storm seem to think so.

Sound Garden being back would be awesome. I actually liked Chris Cornell's song on the Bond soundtrack, was a bit non-plused about Audioslave.

Anyone else can feel free to post Metal News here.

Rammstein - Banned In Belarus

Rammstein are in trouble... again. Authorities in Belarus have declared Germany's Rammstein a threat to the state. They questioned an upcoming concert in Minsk, saying letting it go on would be a "costly mistake" for the country.

Rammstein's music could "destroy the Belarusian state system," said the country's Council for Morality on Monday. The Council described the band's songs as propaganda for "violence, masochism, homosexuality and other abnormalities" and said "permitting a Rammstein concert would be a costly mistake."

The German group, which is known for the sexual and violent nature of its lyrics, was scheduled to perform at Minsk Arena on March 7. Writer Nikolai Tcherginez, head of the government's Council for Morality said he regretted that tickets had already been sold for the concert, but that if the event were to take place, the program would need to be revised in order to prevent "extremism."

Belarus is a former Soviet republic and has been ruled since 1994 by President Alexander Lukashenko, who has been referred to as Europe's "last dictator." The country's Council for Morality, a state-sponsored censorship agency, was founded in 2009 and has been accused of suppressing freedom of opinion.

The Rammstein concert organizers told the Interfax-West news agency on Monday that they had "no information that Rammstein will spread violent, perverse, cruel or Nazi ideology at their concert in Minsk."

^^ I didn't know that Jello Bifra was still touring. I thought he had been trying his hand at politics.

I still remember the first time I heard the Dead Kennedys. Few months later a guy rocked up with a Dead Kennedys t-shirt on and I told him that I had them on tape (yeh I know, I'm old). Guy had no idea who they were, he just liked the t-shirt design. :disgust:

Metal Storm Awards 2009 - Staff Picks Revealed!

Well, it is one week after your winners of the 2009 Metal Storm Awards were unveiled… you know what that means. It's time that we, the Metal Storm Staff, post up our winners.

We'd like to thank all the nominated bands for their efforts last year. There was a lot of good metal that we were able to enjoy. We spent the month of February listening to the nominees again and conducting our own polls. Some were runaway favorites whereas other genres had such tight competition that we required run-offs to determine a winner.

So we cordially invite you to tell us just how little we know about metal, how much our picks suck (or don't, if your tastes are similarly aligned)… you can do so here.

  • Category.....................Pick

^^ Sonica Artica winning power metal was a joke too, and I'm not sure that Immortal released the best black metal album last year either.

When you look at the vote breakdowns there were clearly fandom votes. The Symphonic metal category had more votes for Epica than all other nominees combined! Bullshit. There were 3-4 great albums in that category (all of which I own) and just shows it to be a popularity contest.

This is worse than the Guitar World Guitarist of the Year award. Might as well be the Guitarist that has released a popular album award.

I'm fine with Sonata Arctica winning their award actually haha

Very true though, Guitar world greatest guitarist is the biggest joke in music.

The Best Power Metal Album

1. Sonata Arctica - The Days Of Grays 277
2. Dark Moor - Autumnal 117
3. Heavenly - Carpe Diem 79
4. Adagio - Archangels In Black 78..............
5. Primal Fear - 16.6: (Before The Devil Knows You're Dead) 67
6. Fairyland - Score To A New Beginning 60
7. Savage Circus - Of Doom And Death 42
8. Stratovarius - Polaris (write-in vote) 23
9. Dawn Of Destiny - Human Fragility 21
10. Wizard - Thor 18
Hammerfall - No Sacrifice, No Victory (write-in vote) 18
Powerwolf - Bible of the Beast (write-in vote) 18
13. Cain's Offering - Gather The Faithful (write-in vote) 17
14. Alestorm - Black Sails At Midnight (write-in vote) 14

Guess I'm just not a fan of Sonata Artica. I had a listen to them due to their impressive cover of Metallica's Fade to Black but was unimpressed with the rest of their work. The list of artists there are slim pickings for better, but over double the vote of second place???

Besides how can you not vote for an album with this cover:
