Haven't watched the video yet, but this is re-hashing an old idea.

Peak Oilers, Global Warming nuts, hard-core environmentalists, and doomsday nuts have been warming up to Dimitri Orlov's concept of a soviet style US collapse for years.

His book, Reinventing Collapse, is required reading for pessimistic undergrads.
