What is the whole idea behind doing a chest press on the floor?... how is it different to doing it on a bench?... i cant understand the science of the so called advantages that the chest floor press gives when compared to the regular chest press. Wouldnt just stopping once the humerus (where ur biceps & triceps are) is parallel to the ground on a regular bench be basically the same thing? What are your thoughts and opinions on the chest floor press?Similar Bodybuilding Threads: Is it necessary to touch the bar to chest on the bench press? Calling it a "chest" press is a bit misleading as it is primarily used for tricep development and weakpoint training in the bench. It better than partial benching because it makes it easier to pause and hold the bar in the same spot each rep rather than performing the retarded pressing fit that passes for normal benching in most gyms. Want big tris? Floor press. No other exercise allows you to handle so much weight and focus primarily on the tris.

It's the same notion as a box squat. You relax at the bottom and it eliminates any stretch reflex (as relaxed as you can get with a bunch of weight over you, that is). It emphasizes lockout strength.
Hi MrChewiebitums, My experience is you have a limited range of motion on the floor.
