With some of the world's best players on show, serious prize money up for grabs and the all-action T20 format in place, the tournament promises to be another enjoyable spectacle after a bumper summer of cricket.
Here's a look at some of the key players set to ply their trade in India over the next three weeks.
Shane Watson, Rajasthan Royals
Shane Watson starred for the Rajasthan Royals during the Indian Premier League season, finishing as their top run-scorer despite being known as an all-rounder.
The Australian was one of only four batsmen to hit a century in the IPL, a figure which helped him finish fifth in the division for runs scored. With the ball, he also managed to grab a more-than-respectable 13 wickets.
He goes into the Champions League on the back of a largely-disappointing summer for his country, having played below his usual standard in the Ashes series defeat to England.
However, he showed a glimpse of the form he's capable of when he top-scored with 176 on the final day of the fifth Ashes Test.
Harbhajan Singh, Mumbai Indians
Playing on home soil, Harbhajan Singh will be looking to impress India's selectors and force his way back into the international fold after a year out.
The talented bowler has been in good form of late, taking 24 wickets in the IPL as Mumbai won the title.
Now 33, Singh has the experience to have a major impact on the tournament and help his side reclaim the trophy they last won in 2011.
Mike Hussey, Chennai Super Kings
The top run-scorer in the IPL last season, Mike Hussey will be hoping to fire the Chennai Super Kings to their second Champions League win after victory in 2010.
Although he hasn't played in India since the end of May, the former Australia batsman still has the quality to put opposition bowling attacks to the sword over the next few weeks.
Expect 38-year-old Hussey to roll back the years and recapture his IPL form.
AB de Villiers, Titans
AB de Villiers has struggled for form and fitness recently, but the South Africa captain remains one of the world's top batsmen when at his best.
The 29-year-old endured an underwhelming IPL season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore last time out but still managed two impressive half centuries.
He may well be rejuvenated when he takes to the wicket for his home side Titans, who are chasing their first Champions League trophy.
