When we think of cardiovascular health, physical activity - such as running - often comes to mind. But new research shows that running a marathon can prompt heart muscle changes that cause the heart to swell, and this is particularly the case in runners with lower fitness levels...

Yes to much running, like running marathons could cause scar tissue to build up in the heart muscle, which can lead to sudden death. I would go with running between 15-20 miles a week for the ideal amount.

Though there are a lot of health benefits such as weight loss, stress reduction, regulated blood pressure and lower level of cholesterol from doing an intense exercise such as marathon but running too hard for too long overloads the heart. Excessive exercise for a long period thickens the heart tissue and can lead to dangerous irregular heartbeat and possibly even sudden death. However, it is quite rare for a runner to face death during a marathon.
