Vigorous exercise tied to reduce flu risk

A report on a UK survey suggest that vigorous exercise may help reduce the risk of catching the flu. The survey finds no such link with moderate exercise. However, the report authors stress the results are preliminary and should be treated with caution. The findings come from the UK Flusurvey, in which more than 4,800 people have so far taken part this year.

Any kind of physical activity can be good for flushing bacteria out of the lungs and airways- and this is suppose to reduce your chance of getting a cold, flu, or other illness. Exercise causes change in antibodies and white blood cells- these white blood cells are the body's immune system cells that fight disease.

We are taught that exercise lead to weight loss and longer lifespan but regular exercise can also boost our immune system. It increases the production of an bacteria-engulfing white blood cell, macrophages. Also, during moderate exercise, immune cells circulate throughout the body at a faster rate thereby killing more unwanted bacteria and viruses. But it requires consistent and regular exercise to gain the long-term benefits of having stronger immune system.

A lot of people do not see the value of exercising. They view it as a waste of time and does not make them productive. Actually, exercising has a lot of benefits. Not only in weight loss but also boosts mental activity thus increases productivity. Also, it fights infection or flu because a lot of researchers found exercising strengthens the immune system.
