Arnold Classic

When it comes to pro bodybuilding, keen bodybuilding fans all over the world generally tend to have at least, two events jotted down in their diaries or on their calendars at all times: The Mr Olympia contest, held in Las Vegas in September, and The Arnold Classic competition, held in Columbus Ohio, in late February/early March. The Mr Olympia competition is of course the biggest competition in the entire world, with the winner being crowned as the greatest bodybuilder in the world, but hot on its heels in terms of popularity, is the Arnold Classic. For any soccer fans amongst you, if the Olympia is the World Cup, the Arnold Classic is the European cup (even though it isn’t held in Europe of course). Widely considered the second most popular and prestigious competition in IFBB Pro Bodybuilding, the Arnold Classic has given birth to some amazing stars and when you consider some of the previous winners, it’s no wonder why.

The Arnold classic was organized by, and is named after none other than former Mr Olympia and bodybuilding hall of famer Arnold “the oak” Schwarzenegger. It has been going since 1989, and is one of the hottest competitions of the New Year. With 1st prize winners taking home a whopping $130,000, a luxury watch, and a hummer, it’s no wonder why so many bodybuilders take this contest so seriously. With huge names having won in the past, including Rich Gaspari (the very first winner), Shawn Ray, Kevin Levrone, Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, Victor Martinez, Branch Warren, and Dennis Wolf, to name but a few, this gives you an idea about the kind of calibre of athlete competing as the competition. With the Arnold Classic now a little more than three months away, the forums and message boards are heating up, with keen fans in the bodybuilding community speculating on who will be this upcoming competition’s winner. Last year saw Dennis Wolf keep up his remarkable hot streak and take home the title, in dominating fashion we may add, but can he do it again this time around, or will somebody beat him to the podium, and, as many people are wondering (and hoping) will we see any upsets? Well, here’s a look at a few of our thoughts and predictions for the 2015 Arnold Classic.

Arnold Classic

2015 Arnold Classic

Who are we backing? – The thing about the Arnold is you never know who may show up, who will show up conditioned, who may miss their mark, and who exactly will win. The contest isn’t like the Olympia (Ronnie and Jay) (Jay and Phil) (Phil and Kai) as it is far more open meaning anybody is in with a shot if they bring the right package. For that reason, here’s a look at our prediction for the top 4 competitors. So, starting at our prediction for 4th.

Victor Martinez 4th – Big Vic has had a troubled career, and that’s putting it mildly. There have been scandals, family tragedies, injuries at the worst possible time, and of course, most recently, an incarceration due to issues with his Visa. It took Vic a good year or so to pack on all of the mass that he lost whilst in jail, but he now looks as good as he ever has, and proved just how impressive he can be by finishing in the top 4 last year. This time around, providing he stays injury free, with a little added mass and conditioning, we’re picking Victor Martinez for a 4th place finish once again, so watch this space.

Shawn Rhoden 3rd – Unfortunately, Shawn is another bodybuilder with a rather sad and troubled history. Shawn battled and overcame alcohol dependency and depression due to the untimely and tragic loss of his father, and was able to bounce back after a several year layoff, by notching up some very impressive showings indeed, capped off perhaps, by a 3rd place finish at this year’s Mr Olympia. Last year Shawn placed second at the Arnold Classic, but we have him finishing 3rd this time around due to the very next man on our list...

Cedric McMillan 2nd – Over the years, Cedric has looked more and more impressive, combining fantastic, razor sharp conditioning, with muscle mass that would rival many of the so-called “mass monsters” of recent years. People have described him as an “aesthetic mass monster” as he has the size, but a small and trim waist and great condition. People often compare Cedric’s physique to that of a prime Arnold, which is an incredible, but justified, compliment indeed. Ced finished 3rd last year at the Arnold, but this year we have him doing one better and coming in at 2nd place.

Dennis Wolf 1st – When you think about it, barring one incredibly poor Mr Olympia showing, Dennis Wolf has been consistently impressive in pretty much all of his competitions for the last 7 or 8 years. Dennis capped off his extremely impressive run last year by scooping 1st place at last year’s Arnold, and an extremely impressive 4th at the Olympia. Dennis has the size, and it looks like he’s now nailed his conditioning as he has looked consistently impressive in numerous recent showings. His sponsorship with BSN doesn’t seem to have done him any harm at all, in fact, if anything it’s helped make him even more impressive. Maybe it’s all that NO-Xplode and Syntha-6, who knows? No matter what it is, it’s clearly working for Dennis and we have him coming in 1st at the Arnold once again.

Remember, we don’t actually know who is competing at this stage, so these are just educated guesses. Other competitors worth watching will be Evan Centopani, Branch Warren, Ben Pakulski, and Toney Freeman, so expect all of the above names to be in the top 10. If Kai (Greene) chooses to enter however, things will be very different and Dennis Wolf will be in trouble. For now, however, as things stand, that’s how we think things will play out.

Great read, and I'm actually agreeing with the top 5. If Wolf competes he will win here again.

Oh wait, after a 2nd read I've noticed that there is no Evan Centopani in that list. He will be a threat for the top 3 imo. This year he is working with Oscar Arden as his nutritionist coach.

It has been a while since his last show, isn't it?

Evan's last show was in March 2014, 1 week after the 2014 Arnold, and that was the Australian GP. 1 full year of off season.
