What is testosterone? – Testosterone is the dominant male sexual health hormone which is produced within the testes, via the Leydig cells, within men, that is. Women can also naturally produce testosterone, although the amounts that they produce are much, much lower than men, and they produce the hormone within their ovaries. In both sexes, we also naturally synthesize the hormone via the adrenal glands, although the amounts produced are much lower. Testosterone is a steroid hormone, so it can be grouped within the androgen class of natural hormones within the human body.
