Why do overweight fighters stick to their division?

It really puzzles me every time I would read the sports news that a boxer or an MMA fighter was stripped of his belt due to being over the weight limit. Just recently, WBO bantamweight champion Marlon Tapales of the Philippines won his fight against Japanese Shohei Omori by 11[SUP]th[/SUP] round knockout. However, he lost his championship belt because WBO stripped him of it due to being overweight by 1 pound. Come to think of it, if he is having difficulty in the bantamweight division then why doesn’t he fight in the heavier division?
