In boxing, ending the fight via KO or TKO is not preferred by boxers because it often results in heavy injury. There were boxers who fell into a coma after a knockout loss. In mixed martial arts, the fight can be abbreviated via submission. Often it is the choke that a figher would tap out in surrender. At least there is lesser injury than being knocked out. That’s the defense of MMA enthusiasts that the sport is not as brutal as boxing. But on the other hand, blood is common in MMA fights since the weapons of a fighter are more lethal like the elbows and kicks.
