What Caused The Shocking Death Of Australian Bodybuilder

By Farhan Ayyubi

Flaunting muscles emerged as a fashion among the youths all across the world, making the bodybuilding and fitness, a multi million-dollar business. Bulky muscles of bodybuilders inspired the youths, whose desire to develop muscles through short cuts gave an opportunity to companies for supplying steroids. However, the body builders often ignored the dark side of the sport.

Anabolic steroids are a part of the sport of bodybuilding and when abused, the results can be disastrous. The real story of professional bodybuilder Andreas Munzer is a proof that the use of steroids has become common in the sport of bodybuilding, despite all its negative aspects.

Recently, a picture of a bodybuilder’s corpse went viral on the Internet. Since the face of the dead man was not visible in the picture, it was suspense that who was the burly man.

It later emerged that the big dead guy in the picture was no other than Andreas Munzer. The Austrian bodybuilder’s death, on March 14th 1996, raised several doubt over the sport of bodybuilding. The autopsy of Munzer’s body clearly indicated steroid abuse as the cause of death. Many other abnormalities were found in his body that sent shockwaves among his fans.

Munzer was at the peak of his carrier when he died. Weighing 240 pounds Munzer usually competed at sub 5 % body fat and his ripped physique was a subject of admiration even for his competitors. Munzer was known for doing best in every competition but his desire to be on the top cost the health of his organs, ultimately leaving him dead.
Liver
The trouble for Munzer started on March 12, 1996 when he started bleeding internally and the doctors took him under observation. His kidneys and liver gave in before the doctors could stop the bleeding from his stomach. The condition of Munzer did not allowed the doctors even for blood transfusion and on March 14, he was declared dead.

The details of Munzer’s autopsy reports and analyses of his organs were shocking:

Munzer has extremely muscular body with almost ZERO subcutaneous fat. Despite the fact that fat is essential for the human body’s survival.

The liver was infected with table-tennis-ball sized tumors. Half the liver was no better than pulpy plastic.

His liver weighed 2.9 kilograms, almost a kilo heavier than a normal male’s liver weighing in at 2 kilograms. Bile ducts in the liver were also proliferated and had stopped functioning.
Body parts

Lungs had gone into shock.

Kidneys had no fat whatsoever and were swollen to immense proportions.

His heart was also enlarged and weighed in at an astonishing 639 grams. A normal man’s heart weighs about 300 grams.

His testicles were shrunken beyond belief.

His electrolyte balance was out of whack. Traces of as many as 20 odd drugs were found in his blood.

Munzer died a painful death due to the steroid abuse. One of his infamous technique was ‘get shredded practice’. He used to dial down to a 2000-calorie diet and shot diuretics (water depletion drugs) to get ripped. Usually professionals would get down to dangerously low body fat levels only 2-3 times a year or during competitions, Munzer wanted to be that way all year round. Although, these practices cost Munzer his life, there was no stop on the use of steroids. Besides being injected by professionals, they are even used by regular guys who join local gyms to build muscles. The use of steroids is getting more prevalent and advanced with time and it appears that there is no turning back once you stick a needle into your body.

Anabolic steroids again! This narrative is becoming too common. What
miffs me is the fact that most me the users are well informed or at
least have heard of instances where others have become casualties of
the same. These steroids have been implicated in cases of cancer,
heart attack - which is the most likely cause of this death. On a
lighter but no less serious note, they have been known to cause breast
growth in men.

I know many people that use them and have used them for years with no ill effects at all. You just have to be smart.
