An unknown journeyman who fought for the money, Ken Norton rose to fame when he defeated Muhammad Ali by split decision. In their rematch, it was Ali’s turn to win by a split decision. And to settle the score, they had a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] fight where Ali won this time by unanimous decision. But Norton had earned the moniker jaw breaker because Ali had admitted that he suffered a broken jaw in his first fight with Norton. And although Norton did not become a bona-fide world heavyweight champion, he was awarded the honor retroactively when champion Leon Spinks insisted on fighting Ali in a rematch after grabbing the belt in their first fight.
