Everyone understands that one of the best ways of coping up with acid reflux problem is correct choice of foods. Since this problem affects many people, I would like to know if exercise could also help relieve the symptoms. If the answer is yes, what is the explanation behind this, in relation to exercise, and which are the best exercises to deal with this problem?

I have acid reflux and Iagree that food is one big factor. But a bigger factor is stress wh8ch can aggravate the stomach's acidity. Exercise in the proper way can help prevent the attack of acid. But it is more therapeutic than a workout. An exercise to ease your nerves can help curtail acid reflux. Bending, stretching, breathing and a little yoga will do.

There are some good home based and herbal remedies that can be used to counteract the condition and one of them, Iberogast has been proven to be effective in treating this condition. Some supplements actually worsenn the condition and should be taken under medical supervision.

No, sorry, but forget about relieving anything. You just need to avoid what ever affects you.
At my knowledge the usual suspects are always the dairy products and fruit.

I had acid reflux in the past and what cured it was when I undergone a detox by drinking lots of pure coconut juice while decreasing my solid food intake. I drank 12 full glasses of coconut juice per day and after 2 weeks, my acid reflux disappeared. After a year it came back and that time I tried working on my abdominals in the gym while drinking coconut juice and it dissapeared and that was 3 years ago and I haven't had another attack again since then.

You are one lucky guy to have been cured by coconut juice. No, it wouldn't work with me because we used to have coconut juice from 4 young coconuts every day and it just aggravated my acid reflux. Now, I am using a special pillow to discourage the reflux and also sleeping on my left side otherwise I could have sore throat. With the exercise, I guess it helps because I am doing 30 push ups every day and the symptoms are tolerable. And during a period of days that I don't do exercise, the reflux is very visible.

Do you guys have GERD along with this? This is what I have and it makes it very hard to breath at night. The reason is because the acid causes the esophagus so swell. It is terrible because it makes sleeping difficult.

I suffered from Silent Acid Reflux for years, and didn't know I had it.
Till my Salivary Glands started swelling up, and making it difficult to swallow.

I spent 2 years on Prilosec (Omeprazole), and it wasn't doing much.

Then I started to research Alternative Methods.
And came across an Ayurvedic Cure for Acid Reflux.

Aloe Vera Juice and Pomegranate Juice ~ 2 Oz. of each every morning.
I use Lily of the Desert Aloe Vera Juice (whole leaf or fillet), Not the Gel.
And 100% Unsweetened Pomegranate Juice.

My ENT declared me Cured 4 Years ago, cause he would Scope my Throat, and no longer see any Acid at the back of my Throat.
Which he always saw when I was taking the Prilosec.

Proton Pump Inhibitors like Prilosec, Prevacid, Aciphex, and Protonix.
Cause the body to Lose Magnesium and Vitamin B-12.
And have been Proven to cause Osteoporosis, and Kidney Disease...……………………. JP

My GERD was discovered when I had a severe sore throat. The specialist said that the acid from stomach had burned my throat hence my tonsils were swollen that included parts near the tonsils. I was prescribed antibiotic and a medication to inhibit the acid. The problem vanished after 2 weeks. But the acid reflux manifests once in a while maybe when I had eaten something that didn't suit my stomach. And I couldn't sleep on my right side because my nose would be clogged and I would be breathing through my mouth which would result in sore throat. Anyway, I have noticed that the acid is tamed when I am in good shape like now when I am doing 35 push ups with ease.

The problem I have is not being able to get a deep breath at times. Usually at night when I am laying down. This started when I was staying in the Philippines a couple years ago. I actually went to the hospital because I thought I was going to die. They did ex rays of my lungs and they checked my heart and the doctor told me I had acid reflux. I took some medication she gave and was fine but it has come back with force recently. It is very tough to sleep.

Today I will but some aloe vera and pomegranate juice and some fresh coconut juice as well. :)

Thanks for posting everyone! Great thread! Very helpful!

Mix it with the Pomegranate Juice, this will improve the flavor.
Aloe Vera's ability to Heal the Esophagus and Stomach Lining, far outweigh the moment it's going down your Throat.

Sounds like you were having the Exact same problem as I was.
Your Salivary Glands Enlarging and making Breathing and Swallowing a problem...……………………….. JP
P.S.
If you can afford it ~ Get a Barium Swallow Test done, to make sure there's No Obstructions, or other Damage.
I had one done when I was 1st Diagnosed with Silent Acid Reflux.

Post Edit:
Don't know where you are, but you should be able to find 100% Pomegranate Juice.
At Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, H-Mart, or any Big Grocery Store.
Just make sure it's Not Sweetened, only 100% Pure Juice.

Thanks brother, I got the Aloe vera from The Vitamin Store today but I think I can get the unsweetened pomegranate even at Stop and Shop. I'll try to stop tomorrow.

It's no big deal. It's just a couple ounces so a quick swallow is all.

Thanks again for the advice!

If this can help, I also complained of difficulty of breathing hard. The doctor said that if I have gastritis or GERD, I should learn how to breath shallow because breathing hard will stimulate the peptic glands to produce acid. And I remembered that time that I had difficulty in getting more air. And the more I breath hard, the harder it was for my lungs as if a balloon of air was obstructing my esophagus. Anyway, the taboo for GERD is - coffee, alcohol, cigarette, spicy food, citrus and other sour food.
