I don’t know why Frank Sinatra was dubbed as the chairman of the board but one friend said that because Sinatra is a chairman of the board of directors in one casino. His most popular moniker is Old Blue Eyes. Sinatra was not only a great singer but also an actor. And being a lady’s man, he had been counting women for his partner. And in fairness to the guy, he gave us the immortal hit My Way.

The love of Frank Sinatra's life would be Ava Gardner when they married on November 7, 1951 Frank's career was at its nadir and some people were calling him Mr. Ava Gardner which did not sit well with Frank. Frank wanted the role of Angelo Maggio in From Here To Eternity that was being produced by Columbia Pictures and the head of the studio was Harry Cohn who could be a tough taskmaster. Frank asked Ava to speak with Harry Cohn and convinced Cohn that Sinatra would be perfect which he was for he received the Academy Award for Best-Supporting Actor in 1951 which revitalized his career and he and Ava would remain friends until Ava passes away in 1990.

I am not familiar with the love life of Sinatra as with the popularity of his songs. I think it was Sinatra who revolutionized the way a son is supposed to be sung which made him a cut above the rest. A lot of Sinatra's songs are actually interpretations of Sinatra which when one hears it over the radio it could not be mistaken as coming from some other singers. It is also typical for Sinatra to hit both high and low notes in the same song, like in his rendition of My Way. I was really stunned when Sinatra and Jobim sang some Bossa Nova, like the Girl from Ipanema, where Sinatra used his own style of singing in a song coming from a different genre. I think this were the greatness of the singer comes in.

A few years back, I read in a local paper that Frank Sinat's hit song My Way has been found to be the leading cause of karaoke brawls. There seems to be a curse attached to the song because many deaths have been attributed to it especially for those who probably sang it off key and irritated drunken listeners. Does it have anything to do with the song's lyrics like, " ...not the words of one who kneels..." with an allusion to prayer that is something not manly? I am not superstitious but that line says a lot in the song.

I've read some time ago that Frank Sinatra hates Elvis Presley because of how Elvis projects himself on stage and this made Elvis hate him back. But in one rare appearance the two singers was surprised to know that they would sing together in a benefit show. They hurled invectives to each other before the performance and after. But during their performance together they showed how professional they are.

Here's the YouTube video...

I heard from somewhere that a broadcaster named him Chairman of the Board. Frank was okay with it. He never believed his publicity or made a big deal about it. When Sinatra was off stage, he manages a more or less normal life. Nothing too grand or fancy.

Sinatra teamed up with Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr in their 1960s Rat Pack in Vegas. The group had a grand time there singing ang doing comedy stints until breaking up. What was notable in their story was that among them it was Dean Martin who never drank hard liquor during their gigs. He drank apple juice instead. Quite a guy.

I have heard that some radio host gave Frank Sinatra the nickname of "Chairman of the Board", and this was because this radio host said on a broadcast one time- that Benny Goodman was the "King of Swing" and Duke Ellington was the "Duke", so Sinatra should have a title as well. I heard he embraced the title at the time, but later his last wife said he hated it.
