There comes a time in a bodybuilder's career when they need to show what direction they are headed in. Will they be a front runner and a threat at the top tier contests or will they be the type that can win a smaller show and just fill out of the middle to the bottom of the line-up at the more prestigious ones?
Such is the case for Evan Centopani, who has more questions being asked about him than any of the others heading into the Arnold Classic in March.
The Trumbull, Connecticut native has been careful over the years as far as how many and which contests to enter and that may have worked against him. He has always been a fan favorite but has not been as active as many of the other IFBB pros.
Centopani earned his pro card at the 2007 NPC Nationals and took off nearly two years before trying his hand on the pro circuit.
It seemed to work in his favor as a big and conditioned Centopani was victorious at the 2009 New York Pro, quite a win at any stage of the game, especially in your first pro show.
It was over a year and a half later the next time Centopani competed and he once again came out on top, this time at the 2011 FLEX Pro. Two months later, he faired extremely well by placing fourth in his first Arnold.
Using a full year to prepare for the following Arnold Classic paid off for Centopani, as he improved by one placing and made it into the top three. The 2012 Mr. Olympia was his next show and he placed eighth, not too shabby for his first O.
In 2013, Centopani needed to qualify for the Olympia and was able to do so by winning the #PBW Tampa Pro. But he was off in Las Vegas and dropped all the way down to 13th.
Last year in Columbus, Ohio, Centopani finished in fifth place and then third at the Australian Grand Prix, with both being disappointments for the 5' 11", 260 pounder.
Needless to say, he can bring it back to 2012 with a top-three placing at the Arnold, a show with a deep and experienced line-up. So that will be no easy task, but one that Centopani is capable of pulling off.
