Mercito Gesta of the Philippines defeated Roberto Manzanares of the US to win the North American Boxing Organization’s lightweight title. Gesta won by majority decision with 2 judges giving him 96-94 while the 3rd judge gave the fight a draw. Despite the big discrepancy in the height – Gesta is 5 feet 7 inches while Manzanares stands at 6 feet – Gesta was able win by being the attacker in the first 5 rounds. Gesta now has a record of 32-2-2 and is in line for bigger fights.
