Bodybuilding. Some call it a sport; others a lifestyle. However you choose to categorize it, all of us associated with it in some way, shape or form have had it exposed to the 'mainstream' due to not one, but two tragic incidents that resulted in the death of Dallas McCarver and Rich Piana.

There are so many unanswered questions surrounding both situations and there will be a time where those will be addressed. But now is not the time for that; let the families and friends of these men have a chance to bury and mourn them without the specter of accusations hovering over them.

When was the last time that TMZ Sports and ESPN even mentioned bodybuilding? Since Piana was first rushed to the hospital, he has been on the former's coverage radar. And in regards to the latter, they now have speculated that mixed martial artist Jon "Bones" Jones's recent suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs is somehow associated with the UFC star being in the company of various bodybuilders recently. ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith mentioned both McCarver and Piana in his statement.

We in the bodybuilding media expect those types of outlets to capitalize on these deaths to further demonize the use of anabolic steroids; it has been that way since the Home Run race of 1998.

But people who consider themselves fans of bodybuilding have shown their ugly side by leaving negative comments about these two men. Regardless of what you may feel about them, again, this is not the time for such nonsense.

Yes, these deaths are certainly alarming and if the evidence eventually shows that substances such as insulin played a part in either, then it may result in a rude awakening for many bodybuilders. But let's not even speculate until the right time.

Dallas McCarver has died. RIP Dallas. You will be missed.

RIP Rich Piana!
