This is sad news for the Filipino boxing fans that their boxer had lost to the Nicaraguan knockout artist. It was a grueling 6 rounds of more likely an even scoring with both sides trading countless of punches although it looked like Alvarado had the edge in the number of significant punches that landed. The problem with Petalcorin is that he stays in the corner and with his back on the ropes that gave Alvarado a clear target. In the 7th round, Petalcorin felt the heavy punches that his body received. He knelt for an 8 count and another kneeling for another count. On the third time that Petalcorin knelt, it was obvious that his body had taken its toll and it was the end of the fight. Alvarado is now the new IBF Light Flyweight champion.
