Russian Marat Gafurov will once again pave the way for another title fight by clearing the obstacle in the person of Japanese Tetsuya Yamada on May 3 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Gafurov has a record of 16-2 while Yamada has a record of 26-6-2. Gafurov is ahead in the betting odds because of his better record and he was also a former world champion in mixed martial arts.

Russian mixed martial artist Marat Gafurov won by unanimous decision over Tetsuya Yamada. His relentless attacks somehow stymied Yamada which gave Gafurov a psychological advantage. Admittedly it was the takedowns that ruined the chances of the Japanese because he failed to launch a good attack. Gafurov earned his 17th win and is now expected to figure in a title fight with One featherweight champion Martin Nguyen.
