Vis Vires Labs Owner Sentenced to Nine Years in Prison
Chris Caplinger was a former cop who decided to set up his own underground steroid laboratory in Oklahoma.

Chris Caplinger was sentenced to 9 years (108 months) imprisonment by United States District Judge Scott Palk during a sentencing hearing in Oklahoma City on June 17, 2019. Caplinger also forfeited $287,743 cash that had been seized by law enforcement. In addition, he was ordered to pay a money judgment of $740,000 that represented the proceeds for his illegal steroid operation known as Vis Vires Labs.

Caplinger was one of four co-conspirators who were sentenced in connection with the Vis Vires Labs UGL. Donald Vincent Jr was sentenced to 3 years (36 months) imprisonment, forfeited $99,473, and ordered to pay a $100,000 money judgment. Michael Schott and Deborah Crawford were sentenced to 18 months and 30 months in prison, respectively.

The four co-conspirators were indicted on 23 counts related to the manufacture and distribution of anabolic steroids by a federal grand jury on March 20, 2018. All four pleaded guilty in the fall of 2018.

U.S. domestic underground labs rarely survive more than two years before being shut down by law enforcement.
Vis Vires Labs was once a relatively popular and successful U.S. domestic steroid source. The operation lasted over 2 years from as early as April 2015 until November 2017.

Heavily-armed federal agents shut down the illegal UGL with simultaneous raids on the morning of November 29, 2017. DEA agents discovered a large-scale clandestine laboratory operating out of a commercial office for “Boss Auto Sales”. The auto company was merely a front for Vis Vires Labs.

Caplinger retired from the Edmond Police Department after being a cop for over 20 years in 2004. He decided to start a second career as a private investigator. His PI career came to an abrupt end when he was convicted of bribing a peace officer.

Caplinger then decided to embark upon a third career as a drug dealer. He thought the skills he acquired from 20 years as a cop gave him the tools to evade the attention of law enforcement. He was wrong.

Caplinger’s lengthy prison sentence was probably due in large part to his previous felony conviction.
