Richard Commey will defend his IBF lightweight title against boxing prospect Ray Beltran on June 28 at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California. The champion has 25 KOs in 28 wins and has only 2 losses while the 37-year old challenger is a veteran of 45 fights with 36 wins, 8 losses and 1 draw.

It may either be the weight or the age or maybe both that tolled on Beltran that with a knockdown the referee decided to stop the fight. Commey succeeded in defending the IBF lightweight title with that 8th round KO to improve his fight record to 29-2 and 26 KOs. Beltran actually had a problem with his weight and he was over the limit on the last weigh-in.

Beltran was KOd four times and he still managed to get up. That just shows his resilience. I know Commey is moving on, but he needs to work on his defence because Beltran got in a lot of shots that were somewhat, armature-ish.
