Lucas Lepri Wants Everyone to Know He Doesn’t Use Steroids

The 9x Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion hopes that the younger generation believes winning is possible without steroids.
Lucas Lepri, a nine-time world champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wants everyone to know that he does not use anabolic steroids or performance-enhancing drugs. Lepri hopes the younger generation of mixed martial arts athletes believes it is possible to win without steroids.
In an interview with Ryan Smith of FloGrappling, Lepri maintained that all of his accomplishments in jiu-jitsu have been drug-free. He expressed concern that steroid use could be seen as normal by many young athletes.

“I accomplished all these things I have today, all these medals, without using anything,” Lepri said. “If the next generation starts to see that it’s normal, imagine how messy is going to be the sport.”

Jiu-jitsu coaches are encouraging their students to use anabolic steroids.

Lepri alleged that many coaches are encouraging their students to use steroids. He did not provide any names or evidence to support this allegation but it would not be particularly surprising if true.

“You can see the professors sometimes pushing their students to take it, since they’re young. That’s not good. They have to believe they can get there without using. It’s going to be hard, sometimes it’s going to be frustrating as well.”

Lepri was won gold medals at the four major jiu-jitsu competitions i.e. the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, the Pan American Championships, the European Championship, and the Brazilian National Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
However, Lepri has yet to win a gold medal at the ADCC World Submission Fighting Championships. It is worth noting that the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) does not perform any type of drug testing at ADCC-sanctioned events. This obviously makes it much easier for competitors to get away with using steroids.
Lepri joins world champion Jena Bishop in proclaiming their steroid-free status ahead of the upcoming ADCC world championships on September 28th and 29th, 2019.
Bishop voluntarily paid to undergo anti-doping tests to prove that she does not use anabolic steroids. She shared the results with her followers on Instagram.
Bishop acknowledged that there were a lot of male and female competitors who would be using anabolic steroids in preparation for the ADCC championships. She insisted that she was not concerned. She hoped her performance would prove that steroids were not necessary to become a champion even when facing juiced competitors.
Lepri obviously hopes Bishop is correct as he seeks his first ADCC championship gold medal.
