A well-liked and popular high school coach may ultimately lose his job after he allegedly ordered 1.8 kilogram of steroid powder.
Dex Gardner, a 29-year old assistant football coach for the Gosnell High School Pirates in Arkansas, was arrested on suspicion of steroid trafficking on October 25 2019. Gardner was a very popular and well-liked coach and teach as Gosnell High. But his involvement with steroids could cost him his job.
The United States Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) intercepted an inbound international package addressed to Gardner. The package contained approximately 1.8 kilograms of anabolic steroid powder including testosterone powder. Customs reported the seizure to local authorities to arrange a controlled delivery.

Police set up a controlled delivery of 1.8 kilograms of steroid powder to Gardner’s house.

Officers with the Paragould Police Department (PPD) accompanied a U.S. Postal Inspector to deliver the steroid package on October 23, 2019. Gardner’s acceptance of the package triggered the execution of a search warrant of his home.
The probable cause affidavit described the suspicious items that police officers discovered in Gardner’s house. They included two loaded syringes,1.5 doses of hydrocodone, foil bags for packaging the steroids, shipping labels from previous shipments of steroid powder, and boxes for outgoing parcels.
Gardner was charged with conspiracy to traffic a Schedule III controlled substance (anabolic steroids), misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, felony possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bonard Mace, the Superintendent for the Gosnell Independent School District, said that Gardner has been placed on paid administrative leave with pay pending the conclusion of his criminal case.
Several Gosnell High student-athletes reported being shocked and surprised at the news of Gardner’s arrest. They described Gardner as “such a nice guy” and their “favorite coach”.
Superintendent Mace said there was no evidence of student involvement in Gardner’s steroid operation. Mace was not aware of any steroid use by players on the Paragould Pirate football team.
Greene County District Judge Dan Stidham set Gardner’s bond at $75,000 cash-only. Gardner spent the weekend in the Green County Jail before bonding out on October 28, 2019.
