Throwback Thursday!

Found these 2 good quality videos with the posing routines from the finals of Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler from the 2001 Mr Olympia, and I thought it would be a good idea to post them here for all of you to decide who really deserved the win.

The videos might be taken down in a couple of days, because that's what youtube does best.
Just in case, I have downloaded them, so they could be uploaded on mecca.

Posing routines from the finals:

Ronnie Coleman

Jay Cutler

For the prejudging I have:

Front double biceps
- Jay wins because of the conditioning and the quads that have more details than Ronnie's

Front lat spread
- Jay's quads once again are better but chest is flatter. The upper body of Ronnie might give him the edge with the arms-delts-chest separation and mass. Could go either way though.

Side chest
- Ronnie wins: better and bigger chest, delts, arms, AND lower body with size and details on his quads and hams. Jay looks amazing too.

Back double biceps
- Ronnie dominates with size, conditioning from the back, arms, delts, mid back, lower back, glutes and hams. Jay doesn't come close in neither back nor hams and glutes.

Rear lat spread
- like Ronnie said in 2004 "rear, lights out, game over lat spread" lol. Ronnie wins this one as easy as the RDB pose.

Side triceps
- this is Jay's pose all day. Even if he doesn't have Ronnie's separation in his quads and hams from the side, he still wins imo.

Abs & thighs
- Jay's pose once again. He looked the best in this pose in 2001 imo.

Most muscular

- Lightweight baby! Ronnie takes it.

So if Jay would win the front lat spread the scores would be:

Jay - 4
Ronnie - 4

With Ronnie taking the front lat spread it would be 5-3 for Ronnie.

The prejudging was this close because Ronnie was very sick before the prejudging, and there are a few videos on youtube where he talks about what happened.
He drank a lot of water just so he could get up from bed, so it is understandable that it was this close in the prejudging.
That's why the details on his quads from the front were almost non existant. Otherwise he would have smoked the front poses as well.

If it wasn't for this, in my opinion he might have been at this best at the 2001 Mr Olympia. His 2001 Arnold Classic showing was insane.

245lbs at the Arnold
270lbs at the Mr O

Some snapshots from the videos where they both are in pretty much the same place on stage.

So these are the finals, the posing routines.

Jay looked amazing here. Wide shoulders, very thight midsection and no gut. He kept it under control for the entire routine.
His quads were at their best ever as well. Side triceps pose and abs & thighs are his poses.

Ronnie looked much improved from the prejudging, but unfortunately left the stomach hang out pretty much for the entire time.
It is still not as bad as in other years, and since he is the reigning champ, and brought a great conditioning especially from the back, insane separation in his back, arms, glutes - hamstrings tie in, chest, delts and arms size, the hanging mass on his back and on his hams compared to Cutler, I think, yeah, he deserved the overal win even if it was close.

Notice the huge difference in glute hamstring tie in, back size, upper traps size difference, and arms

For me this version of Jay is better than the 2009 Mr O.
I think that at the 09 Mr O he was in better conditioning, had more muscle maturity, but the legs were smaller than 01, and the waist a little bit larger as well.

Jay16

Jay25

Ronnie on the other hand still deserved the win imo. He wasn't as bad as in 02 where he was very flat compared to his normal self.

Ronnie mass

those upper traps are bigger than most bodybuilder's backs lol
Ronnie traps

Ronnies side tricep could have been way better with some minor tweaks imo
Ronnie16

This is what I meant with hanging lats and back mass
Ronnie19

Not even Markus Ruhl couldn't beat him in the most muscular here.
Maybe at the 2002 Mr Olympia, but definitely not here.

Awesome Thread TKD!! for me ronnie still deserved to win as you said the only things holding it back were his stomach region too bloated and his legs lack of separation those two things only then the other is BIG RON territory

Yeah buddy! I know people look back at this Mr O saying Ronnie did not deserve it, but it wasn't as bad as 1981 Mr O, or as 1997 Mr O, or as 2007 Mr O.

More photos from both prejudging and finals.

Even if Jay would have won, it wouldn't have been a very controversial Mr O imo.
Just look at his structure and conditioning.

Comp15

Unnamed

The reason I have Jay winning the front double biceps is because of the way his upper body flows with the detailed quads, the high chest due to the semi vacuum he tries to pull, while Ronnie kinda flexes his arms only, and lets the stomach hang again. Also his quad details are not there.
Jay vs ronnie fdb

The front lat spread is a very good pose for Jay once again. Ronnie did hit this pose way better in some other years, for some reason it doesn't do him justice when he prioritizes flexing his chest while shrugging his traps up. It takes away from the flaring of the lats imo, which is what this pose is all about.
Jay vs ronnie fls

Abs & thighs - no comment really. This is Jay's "lights out game over" kind of pose.
15757 35 1

But then, from the back, Ronnie starts to dominate again.
Size, density and even conditioning are superior to Jay.
