The 2025 CrossFit Open concluded with outstanding performances by Colten Mertens and Mirjam von Rohr, who topped the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively. With participation exceeding 200,000 athletes globally, this year’s Open again highlighted CrossFit’s substantial appeal and prestige as a leading fitness competition. The three-week event took place online from February 27th to March 17th, with final results now officially confirmed.

The Open is officially over! But the leaderboard is still being finalized. We'll take a look at what things look like right now--who did well and and what athletes are in a less than ideal position.

Men’s Division Results and Athlete Highlights

Colten Mertens dominated the men’s division, finishing first overall with only 4 points accumulated across three challenging workouts. Mertens displayed exceptional fitness, winning two of three workouts (25.1 and 25.2). In the third workout (25.3), Mertens narrowly missed victory, finishing second behind Dallin Pepper, who recorded the fastest time by a margin of 16 seconds during the workout announcement event.

The top 10 rankings for the men’s division were as follows:

  1. Colten Mertens – 4 points
  2. Dallin Pepper – 14 points
  3. Jeffrey Adler – 16 points
  4. Austin Hatfield – 21 points
  5. Cale Layman – 29 points
  6. Jayson Hopper – 46 points
  7. Jay Crouch – 62 points
  8. Ricky Garard – 65 points
  9. Uldis Upenieks – 69 points
  10. Nicolás Bedon – 78 points
Mertens’ ability to sustain performance across varied CrossFit modalities—including heavy lifting, endurance, and gymnastics—was instrumental in securing his victory. After narrowly missing qualification for the 2024 CrossFit Games, his dominant performance this year reflects increased determination and refined preparation, making him a strong contender for the upcoming stages.

Women’s Division Results and Athlete Performances

In the women’s division, Mirjam von Rohr successfully defended her 2024 Open title, securing first place with a total of 13 points. Von Rohr dominated the initial two workouts but faced significant challenges in the final workout (25.3), finishing 11th. Despite this setback, she maintained her top position narrowly, edging out Feeroozeh Saghafi by a single point.

The women’s top 10 rankings were:

  1. Mirjam von Rohr – 13 points
  2. Feeroozeh Saghafi – 14 points
  3. Lucy Campbell – 30 points
  4. Andrea Solberg – 34 points
  5. Carolyne Prevost – 42 points
  6. Danielle Brandon – 45 points
  7. Kristin Holte – 68 points
  8. Aline Wirz – 69 points
  9. Oda Lundekvam – 71 points
  10. Alexis Raptis – 73 points
Von Rohr’s performances showcased her versatility and composure under pressure. Despite her ongoing success in the Open, she has yet to compete at the CrossFit Games, having historically been stopped at the Semifinals stage. With her latest Open victory, she is now positioned to achieve this significant milestone in her athletic career.

Understanding CrossFit Open Scoring

Scoring in the CrossFit Open operates on a points-based system where athletes earn points equivalent to their placement in each workout. Lower cumulative points indicate better overall performance. An athlete finishing first in a workout earns 1 point, second place earns 2 points, and placements thereafter increase correspondingly. Athletes aim to finish consistently high across workouts to accumulate the fewest total points possible.

Athlete Spotlight: Colten Mertens

Colten Mertens first gained widespread recognition in 2021 and quickly established himself as one of CrossFit’s elite competitors. Known for his relentless training ethic and remarkable physical capacity, Mertens has consistently showcased his talents, qualifying for three consecutive CrossFit Games from 2021 through 2023. His exceptional performance at the 2025 Open represents a renewed commitment to excellence and positions him as a major contender for the Semifinals and Games.

Athlete Spotlight: Mirjam von Rohr

Mirjam von Rohr entered competitive CrossFit in 2021 and quickly rose to prominence with her consistent top-tier performances. Securing back-to-back Open titles (2024 and 2025), von Rohr has solidified her standing as a formidable competitor within the international CrossFit community. While her past performances have halted at the Semifinal stage, her recent accomplishments indicate strong potential for advancing to the Games.

Next Stages of the 2025 CrossFit Season

This year’s CrossFit season structure has eliminated the Quarterfinal stage. Athletes who performed well in the Open will now directly advance to the CrossFit Semifinals. The Semifinals will occur through a combination of in-person and virtual competitions, starting in April and continuing through June 2025. Athletes at this stage will compete fiercely for qualification to the pinnacle event of the season, the CrossFit Games.

Notable Athlete Absences and Opportunities

Several high-profile athletes, including Patrick Vellner, Annie Thorisdottir, and Emma Lawson, have withdrawn from the 2025 season. Their absence opens pathways for new talent to make a significant impact in upcoming events. Competitors such as Dallin Pepper, Feeroozeh Saghafi, Lucy Campbell, and Austin Hatfield are athletes to watch closely, each demonstrating strong potential for breakthrough performances in the forthcoming Semifinals and Games events.
