Do carbs make you gain weight? Should you avoid carbs at all costs? Here is the truth!
In a world full of diets that focus on fat loss, it may seem paradoxical to some that low carb, high fat diets can actually result in weight gain. Yet this potentially counterintuitive concept is backed by science and the case of Carb Intolerance – or Carbohydrate Intolerance – is no different.
In simple terms Carb intolerance means having trouble metabolizing carbohydrates, particularly those from starchy foods such as potatoes and rice. The exact cause is unknown but generally speaking Carb Intolerant people struggle to metabolize carbohydrates due to a malfunctioning enzyme called amylase which breaks down starch into glucose. Carb intolerance isn't the same as being gluten intolerant but there are some similar symptoms associated with not being able to process carbs properly.
