Shock and grief rippled across the professional bodybuilding community Sunday after the death of entertaining competitor Andy Haman was revealed by his son on social media. The cause of death for the 54-year-old Haman is unknown.
“We love you so much and you will be in our thoughts forever!” wrote Sam Haman, who followed in his father’s footsteps as a bodybuilder. “No one was as strong, kind, silly, goofball wonderful person as you. Don’t worry about mom and the girls I’ll take care of them, just the way you did and taught me.”
Haman was a former high school and Big Ten college wrestler at Iowa who first tried bodybuilding in the 1980s – he won the 1987 Midwest Natural Championships – but gave it up to become a high school teacher. He returned to bodybuilding in the early 2000s and earned the nickname “Mr. Incredible” – even dressing in costume at expos as the father from “The Incredibles” animated movie series.
