Drew Rasmussen was sentenced last week to pay a $1,000 fine, perform 200 hours of community service and spend two years on probation.
Rasmussen pleaded guilty in April to misdemeanor possession of a steroid, methandrostenolone. He faced up to a year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine.
Rasmussen came to the attention of authorities last August when agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Los Angeles inspected a package sent from China. The parcel, addressed to Rasmussen at an apartment in the 1200 block of North Wildwood Way and sent from Shenzhen, China, contained nearly 400 grams of the steroid, also known by its trade name, Dianabol.
On Sept. 1, agents with Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service arranged for the delivery of the package to Rasmussen’s apartment. He was questioned and then arrested.
Professional football players and other athletes looking to bulk up their bodies began using Dianabol in the early 1960s.
It’s unclear from federal court records why Rasmussen ordered the steroid, which is illegal to possess without a doctor’s prescription.
A plea agreement said Rasmussen told investigators he researched anabolic steroids online and placed an order online.
