If you were working at the bottom when that happened, could you just lay on your back and float to the top?

the force of the water to your head would probably damage your brain, not to mention water would shoot up your nose at really high speed and in really high amounts. if the head trama didn't kill you, your eyes popping out and lungs filling with water would.

^^ Yeah...you might be able to survive if you held onto the crane and swam upwards or if you were on the other side of the foundation from the break. It looks like the beginning wasn't violent enough to jostle the crane too much (it's still standing). It would still probably be a mad balls to the wall swim to survive that after it started rushing in, though.
