This week, a Florida bodybuilder was charged with the horrible killing of his ex-wife... after being suspected of incinerating her remains in their garden.
Ian Christopher Baunach, 43, a former Marine, was arraigned on first-degree murder charges in the death of Katie Baunach on Monday.
Katie was last seen alive on September 29... when a friend alleges she indicated she was going to Ian's to grab some of her belongings but never returned.
The following day, police were sent to Ian's house. They spotted Katie's vehicle parked outside, but he refused to allow them in. When cops returned to the home with a warrant, Katie's car was gone.
Once entering Ian's residence, officers claim they saw traces of a fight and blood stains.
Officers discovered an AR-15 upper receiver and 13 silencers, as well as a Glock Model 27.40 caliber handgun in a plastic bag on a bookshelf inside a safe. Katie's engagement and wedding rings were also present.
According to documents, detectives discovered human remains outside of Ian's house, including a jawbone with a molar still intact, in a new fire pile that smelled like flesh... and was near a 50-gallon barrel.
The bodybuilder claims he never murdered her and that she just vanished. On the other hand, Ian admitted the two had a fight over another lady.
Two days after Katie's death, Ian was arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder, destruction/concealment of physical evidence, and cremating a dead corpse.
In Tampa court this week, Ian pleaded not guilty to the accusations.
Katie obtained a restraining order against Ian last month... after accusing him of harming one of their children. In November 2021, Ian was arrested for alleged domestic abuse by strangulation.
Baunach may spend the rest of his life in prison or even get the death penalty if convicted on the state accusation of first-degree murder.
