Mark Wahlberg is planning a film on fitness superstar Jack LaLanne that will celebrate his tumultuous life and accomplishments. He and his production business Unrealistic Ideas were approached initially by Jack LaLanne's wife, Elaine "LaLa" LaLanne, who believed they were the proper people to carry on Jack's legacy. Wonderfilm Production is collaborating with Mark Wahlberg and the two media businesses to produce two films about Jack LaLanne, one narrative and one documentary. Jeff Bowler and Bret Saxon of Wonderfilm are collaborating with Mark Wahlberg and the two media businesses to produce two projects about Jack LaLanne, one a narrative film and the other a documentary. In the 1930s, Jack LaLanne, a fitness guru, and celebrity launched the nation's first fitness club in Oakland. For nearly 30 years, he had his own fitness TV show, The Jack LaLanne Show. He is best known for swimming handcuffed from Alcatraz to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco at the age of 41, setting a world record of 1,033 pushups in 23 minutes at the age of 42, and miraculously towing 70 boats 1.5 miles in Long Beach harbor while shackled and handcuffed at the age of 70. Mark Wahlberg may not have the same athletic achievements as Jack LaLanne, but he has had some very spectacular physical and acting exploits during his career. Wahlberg followed a Jack LaLanne-style workout regimen to get into fighting form for The Fighter, in which he co-starred with Amy Adams and Christian Bale. Both LaLanne and Wahlberg took similar routes to alter their lives via exercise, with LaLanne being inspired to pursue fitness and bodybuilding after hearing a presentation from health food guru Paul Bragg.
