In the 1990s, a new runner took a fast time in the sprint at 11.44 seconds. Her name is Nancy Navalta, a daughter of a fisherman. Some say that she could have been the country’s best bet for the Olympic gold. But before Navalta’s career in track and field took off, a gender issue surfaced with the allegation that Nancy was a man. Forced to take a gender test, she agreed and the doctors eventually ruled that Nancy is considered a male.
