Kelly took ten times the average quantity of amphetamine before entering Mildred Whitmore's home, according to a hospital nurse.
Mildred Whitmore, 84, of Nuneaton, was murdered in a "tragic and pointless" manner by a man condemned to life in prison. Whitmore, a much-loved grandmother, was discovered dead at her house on College Street in the early hours of June 1, 2021, where she had been assaulted in the face and strangled. Chase Kelly, 32, a bodybuilder, was sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison at Warwick Crown Court.
Whitmore was found with a cardigan over her face in the upstairs front bedroom despite sleeping in the rear room, according to the court. Kelly, of Gun Hill, Arley, who had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter due to diminished responsibility, arrived to Whitmore's house after being discharged from George Eliot Hospital, where he rejected an ECG for high blood pressure. Kelly was anxious after taking 10 times the average quantity of prescription amphetamine, according to a nurse at the hospital.
