Seeing he and Diaz would be a dream come true

No need to apologize at all, JS I know I've posted up my opinions on Royce before, but watching that K-1 Dynamite bout just made me want to sound off for some dumb reason.

IMO and for a quick summary Royce is a brilliant BJJ practitioner, and an average MMA competitor. I guess I take exception to him making ludicrous amounts of money to fight once a year, all because he made a stir thirteen years ago (there are a lot of fighters just as good now that get so much less...); pair that with his measley almost-a-slap-on-the-wrist for doping positive against Sakuraba and my colored perception becomes a little more so.

Then you have someone like Tank

Have you ever heard people say "We are smarter than Einstein." because everything he knew we know now, plus everything else we have learnt."

Well I believe the same applies for Royce. Maybe he didn't invent BJJ but he brought it to the masses. (like me).
People are better fighters today because of him.

My actual favourite Gracie is Rickson though... that guy was miles before his time. Has anyone seen the documentary 'Choke?'

^^We're of the same mind on this matter for sure It's similar to Mayweather claiming he's greater than Ali; generation-hopping like that is pointless.

I truly have a great amount of respect for Royce for bringing BJJ to the rest of the world (I'm in that category right along with you); looking back at the genesis of MMA, the guys they scraped up for the most part were comical. I think there were as many self-professed ninjitsu stylists as there were anything else:keke: Men like Royce and Shamrock provided the proverbial bucket of cold water to MMA itself, in that it was time to wise up on the ground game.

My opinion of his ability as a true MMA fighter is just a little different. My only real beef comes in when judges swing decisions his way based on his history and name, the same way it does with any venerable MMA competitor who receives a similar gift.

Rickson was way before his time, just as you said He was incredible, and Choke was a great documentary. Makes me want to see it again. What's his record again? Something like 420-0, with beating something like eighteen opponents in one day? Freaking amazing.

Yeah thats true, his wins were against a bunch of bar room brawlers.. his best wins were against Sevren and Kimo.. and yeah Ricksons record is awesome, not sure how well documented each win was.. there are rumours questioning the validity of each win, but hey.. he's definately a legend.

How bout this? Shamrock vs Shamrock..?

    http://mmajunkie.com/2007/12/19/gary...hamrock-fight/

Elite XC dont get the most skilled fighters, but they do put together some fights that people will pay to see.
We may see a Tank vs Kimbo..

Those BJJ records are a little dodgy, which is a little humorous to me. In the early days of the introduction of Gracie JiuJitsu, Royce made a point of showing practitioners of his family's art decimating people with self-declared gigantic records in arts like karate, kung fu, and ninjitsu:keke: Yet there are more BJJ artists that tote those mega-records today than anyone else

"File not found"...bummer, although I believe I know what you're referring to. The IFL made noise of pairing Ken up against Frank, but aside from Ken's team decimating his brother's nothing ever happened. If the two were to lock up, as much of a Ken freak/fan that I am, I'd have to give the edge to Frank. His striking was lethal (both in power and accuracy) against Baroni, and his ground game doesn't look to have suffered at all over the years. Ken's sun has unfortunately set; being a mega fan of his it sucks to admit the facts, but it is what it is.

If EliteXC can put that together, then power to them. It's good to see another org with some money to toss around, but Kimbo/Tank would be a shameless tuna can fight...that I'd probably watch

So it looks like Bisping is dropping to Middleweight and he'll be facing Charles McCarthy in March. RIP 'Chainsaw/Captain Miserable'; it'll be interesting to see what Michael can accomplish in MW.

    ST-PIERRE LOOKING SHARP IN TRAINING

MMAWeekly.com was on location to observe a traditional Friday sparring session at the Tri-Star gym in Montreal, Canada. On hand were Georges St-Pierre, Rashad Evans, Denis Kang, Patrick Cote, Jonathan Goulet, David Loiseau, David Pariseau, Jacob MacDonald, Steve Claveau and more.

Coaches Greg Jackson and Mike Van Arsdale were also there to supervise the proceedings. From an on-lookers vantage point, it seemed clear that Jackson is St-Pierre’s closest advisor these days.

The initial pairings as directed by Coach Jackson included Evans versus St-Pierre and Loiseau versus Kang. The fighters began by working mainly their striking and occasionally shooting in for a takedown attempt. Every five minutes they would take a short rest and find a new partner for the next round.

Of note, not one fighter (including Evans) was able to take down St-Pierre and it definitely wasn’t because of a lack of effort. On the other hand, it looked as though St-Pierre took everyone down almost at will with probably a 95% success ratio.

St-Pierre’s standup also looked crisp. Although he doesn't throw a lot of combinations, the strikes he does throw land clean and often. Perhaps one minor note of criticism is that his feet are not always grounded thus reducing the amount of weight behind his strikes.

There was also some speculation around the gym, although St-Pierre did not confirm this, that he had actually been anticipating the possibility of Serra pulling out of the fight and thus had been going through his regular intensive training rituals for 12 weeks leading up to the fight. This is interesting because his Dec. 29 opponent, Matt Hughes has repeatedly stated that one of the factors he chose to take the fight was that because he felt St-Pierre may not have had sufficient time to prepare. If what St-Pierre’s teammates are saying is true, Hughes may be in for a bit of a surprise.

can i get a Hell Ya?

My favorite Highlight of Josh is him eating the biggest straight rights from Pedro Rizzo.. took his head off. One of the most devastating KO's I've ever seen.

CC I believe Josh is definitely top 5 in the world.. he's not very likable..(bit like Tim) but he's very well rounded and intelligent.
Doesn't look like we'll see him in the fighting in the UFC anyway.
