I thought this was interesting so I posted it. It is something about Kratom replacement/alternative.
New drug said to replace Kratom, can cause relapse
By Melanie Posey, Reporter
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Tianaa: It’s a capsule that comes in either red or white and is advertised as a dietary supplement.
But those in the drug rehab field say it's the latest trap to pop on the scene after Alabama lawmakers banned this popular drug last year.
“They immediately say it replicates the effects of Kratom with perfection, that it substitutes all the cravings for opioids and will give you the euphoric effects just like an opioid,” says Jonathan White.
He’s the intake director at The Turning Point Foundation in Thorsby - a 12-week inpatient faith-based recovery program.
He says because Tianaa is classified as a research drug so it doesn't require FDA approval, but the effects, especially for recovering addicts, are dangerous.
“A heroin addict is looking to get high so they may be happy with Tianaa for a short period, but it's going to eventually lead them back to using heroin,” says White. “Just this past week, week and a half, we've seen three men who overdosed on heroin that started out on Tianaa.”
Because it's so new, White isn't sure lawmakers are aware of it yet. But he hopes they get wind soon so they can outlaw it, too.
As for those who are recovering and think they should try it, White warns against it.
“It's just not worth the risk to want to take it and roll that dice,” White says. “You may get away with it once or twice, even a couple of months. But eventually it's always a downward spiral. It never gets better.”
We researched and tried to find the makers of the drug Tianaa to get their reaction to these claims.
We were unable to find that information, but will continue our efforts and let you know once we get a response.
