Ronnie has been so good that they judge him by his high standards. If he comes in just slightly off his peak, he loses. Same thing happened at the O. Ronnie wasn't beaten by someone else as much as he beat himself by being slightly off.

I was at the 2002 Mr. O and nobody, and I mean nobody, could stand next to Gunter on the stage that day and look good - he was just amazing. The pictures don't show it that clearly, but being there, I promise you Gunter won that show. That being said, he actually got 5th, the crowd was very upset, a lot of people started walking out and most of those that stayed booed Ronnie when he was announced as the winner, after that happened I think the powers that be in the IFBB thought they had to do something and the result was Gunter was awarded the victory at the GNC show that he should have had at the Mr. Olympia. I was not at the GNC show, so I can not say if he deserved that win, but I think he was going to get it whether or not he deserved it.
