The events is really gigantic, not only regarding the number of competitors but also the number of exhibitors and the number of visitors. There is not any square meter of exhibition space free in the Pabbelon de Cristal in the Casa de Campo. All leading food supplements manufacturers are present here and many of the training equipment producers. There are two stages on different levels and all seats are occupied. Moreover, many viewers are staying and beside of them thousands of visitors are continuously walking along the passes between booths. The noise is so big that sometimes it is difficult to hear the music for the routines on the stage. Some strength test (like dips, pull-ups, barbell standing press or biceps curls) are run at many booth and you can win the T-shirt or similar gadgets.
“I fell in love with Spain since 1980, since “Conan the Barbarian” “ – Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger said at the special meeting at the Spanish Olympic Committee Headquarters in Madrid. Now we can understand what he means. During the Saturday’s morning session Mr. Schwarzenegger, accompanied by the IBB President Dr. Rafael Santonja, visited the venue, when the finals of the men bodybuilding 85 kg category were run and officially opened the 2013 Arnold Classic Europe, cutting the symbolic ribbon and… inviting the finalists of this category to the commemorative picture. They were lucky!
The other interlude was devoted to the giant strongmen, who entered the stage and deadlifted 340 kg barbell for number of reps. And during the Friday’s session two poles were mounted on the stage and we could applaud the pole dancers, what – telling the truth – is not a “dance” nowadays but a technically demanding acrobatics.
The most overcrowded categories: women’s bikini fitness (99 athletes) and men’s physique (95 athletes). After over three hours battle on the stage Russian well-known star Svetlana Eregina was crowned the bikini fitness overall queen. Men’s physique overall title went to Ryan Terry of the United Kingdom. Very impressive men junior bodybuilding category (25 athletes) was won by Tim Budesheim of Germany. Men’s classic bodybuilding overall title to Andrey Shmidt of Russia. Masters men BodyBuilding overall to Jens Schneider of Germany.
