I find it hard to watch anything by David Lynch. His movies freak me out.

You should give Jodorowsky a try. Not quite the same type of surrealism (I'd say it's less intense), but he puts together a good combination of horror, insight, and solid filmmaking. I watched Santa sangre by him recently and was pretty damn impressed by it.
