Allergic reaction to Minoxidil after 3 months

Hey everyone,

I’ve been using Minoxidil for about 3 months now and just started noticing a red, itchy rash developing on my scalp. It’s mainly around the crown and top of my head, where I apply the solution. The irritation started mild but has gotten worse over the past week. I had to stop.

I haven’t changed shampoos or products recently, so I’m assuming it’s from the Minoxidil. I stopped applying it two days ago to see if things calm down. The rash still feels warm and a bit flaky.

Has anyone else had this kind of allergic reaction after a few months of use? Did switching to foam or a different brand help, or did you have to stop completely?

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.

A red rash from minoxidil is often due to an irritant or allergic contact dermatitis, caused by an ingredient like propylene glycol or the minoxidil itself. You may be able to switch to a different formulation, such as a foam, which typically contains fewer irritants. If the rash persists, a doctor may suggest other options, such as a prescription-strength topical steroid, a switch to oral minoxidil, or an alternative treatment altogether

I wonder if it is common. I never heard of anyone getting a rash from minoxidil.
