Best Fighting Game Series Of All Time

So what do you guys think is the best fighting game series of all time. I listed probally the most popular fighting game series' so what do you think is the best from those or if you know a better one than what's on the list what is it?

For me its no contest, Street Fighter is easily the best, and most competitive.

but why isnt def jam vendetta not up there? Thats my favorite fighting game of all time. So gritty and cool. I was so skeptical about it and a friend forced me to play it.

Why is Super Smash Bros. on the list? Its not a fighting game.

How so? It's a game where the entire point is to fight. Not to mention it has an enormous competitive following.

I'm going with Smash Bros. SSBM took INSANE levels of skill to play at the top level and perfected fighting without the use of a traditional health bar. Brawl has less tech skill than Melee, but the ability to read and predict your opponent's moves became even more of an emphasis.

Tekken, Soul Caliber, and Mortal Kombat are meh. If I didn't choose Smash Bros I'd choose Street Fighter.

I used to think that as well.. but then I played Street Fighter got addicted for a while, and then that was it, I still enjoy MK but once you've played Street Fighter esp. vs. other really good players you see how much more competitive and technical it is compared to other fighting games.
