RIP Sebastian. Bodybuilding and cocaine do not mix!
Fatal levels of cocaine were identified as the clear cause of death but other bodybuilding drugs were also found.
Sebastian Marcin Kąkol, a Polish bodybuilder who live in Cardiff (UK) for the past 12 years, died as the result of an accidental cocaine overdose according to the results of an inquest held at the Pontyridd Coroners’ Court on July 8, 2020.
The medications insulin, clomiphene (Clomid) and tamoxifen (Nolvadex) were among the bodybuilding drugs identified in a pathology report completed by Dr. Thomas Hockey. However, cocaine toxicity was the clear cause of death according to Coroner Geraint Williams.
“The circumstances are simply Sebastian Marcin Kakol had ingested cocaine and was found dead at his flat on November 5, 2019,” Williams said in a statement. “I am content with all these findings and conclude that Mr Kakol died as a result of the abuse of drugs.”
The Coroner’s Court was ignorant about the use of various drugs by bodybuilders.
Coroner Williams did not have any doubts about the role of cocaine in the fatal death of Kakol. However, the Coroner’s Court displayed a gross ignorance concerning the role of Clomid and Nolvadex in bodybuilding.
Clomid is typically prescribed as a fertility drug for women. And Nolvadex is typically prescribed as an anti-cancer drug for women with breast cancer. The inquest was apparently befuddled by the off-label use of these medications by Kakol.
As most bodybuilders know, both Clomid and Nolvadex are selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs). SERMs are used by steroid-using bodybuilders to block the effects of estrogen in the body.
Many steroids, such as testosterone, convert (aromatize) to estradiol. This can cause several adverse side effects (such as gynecomastia, hypertension and bloating) when high dosages of steroids are used.
In steroid-using bodybuilders, Clomid is primarily used to stimulate the natural production of testosterone in men particularly during post-cycle therapy. Nolvadex is primarily used by bodybuilders to block the effects of estrogen in the breast tissue in order to avoid gyno.
