I wonder about that.
Here's an interesting article about possible tax revenue if legalized.

This report has estimated the budgetary implications of legalizing marijuana and taxing and regulating it like other goods. According to the calculations here, legalization would reduce government expenditure by $5.3 billion at the state and local level and by $2.4 billion at the federal level. In addition, marijuana legalization would generate tax revenue of $2.4 billion annually if marijuana were taxed like all other goods and $6.2 billion annually if marijuana were taxed at rates comparable to those on alcohol and tobacco.

did anyone see the interview?

it was Ron Paul vs. Stephen Baldwin. :49:

Ron was arguing for the legalization of pot, and Baldwin was arguing that pot is evil and shouldn't be legalized.

needless to say, Ron destroyed that clown.

Similarly, the federal cigarette tax has been bringing in less money each year since 2002. The amount dropped from $8.1 billion in 2002 to $7.7 billion in 2005, according to the same study.

From my understanding one would have to mix weed with tobacco to smoke, so even if there is a whole bunch of new people who start smoking weed, the markets are interlinked and the tobacco sales would also go up. Hence why I say the tobacco market is a bigger. :gaysign:

that was Stephen Baldwin. he's a god awful actor. he's now a converted Jesus freak. he even tried to argue against medical marijuana. lol. there isn't a scientist or doctor anywhere that doesn't at least admit that marijuana can be useful for medicinal purposes.

not to mention that he was arguing against Ron Paul who is a fuckin doctor with decades of experience.

I couldn't figure out why he was there arguing him lol

He also said that the mexicans are lobbying to stop this thing. I mean if its legal to grow in the states why bother importing it from other countries! Its not like there isn't enough farm land in the states. That would take a huge chunk out of there business.

My thoughts on the interview:

the Good- Ron was awesome, clear speaking, and as always able to spit out his historical dates on a whim (he's like this in person too). I also liked how talkative he was, he's usually pretty passive in these kinds of interviews.

the bad- Ron was too talkative, only because Baldwin was such a moron and it would have been much more fun to see him ramble more and make little sense (ie, similar to the Musclemecca equivalent of Bulkboy :D)

I agree with you, he seemed very energetic with an up lifting spirit, unlike most politicians you see on TV.

what happened to bulkboy? I haven't heard from him for a while? would've thought he'd be so happy now that obama's bringing socialism to the states.

Some thoughts:

-I think Baldwin is severely underestimating the amount of people who already smoke marijuana.

-The car accident idea is ridiculous. If anything, pot would be responsible for more 5 mph collisions. People don't want to drive fast while high.

-I forgot Baldwin was in Half Baked.

-The gateway argument is ridiculous. I believe I've done coke and prescription drugs before I ever smoked weed. Now that I smoke regularly I don't touch anything else.

-I more or less agree with what Congressman Paul said. Baldwin's attempted cheap shot at the end about Paul's supporters being potheads was weak.

Rarely in America. Some people prefer spliffs because they're smoother than pot alone but rolling them is more popular in Europe and other parts of the world. There was actually a girl I met in State College, PA that was in the Israeli army who rolled them.
