American taxpayers doled out $24,000 per vehicle sold under the government's "Cash for Clunkers" auto program, according to a study released Wednesday.

Seriously, that 3% was led by automobile sales (cash for clunkers) and residential construction. Note, the government also is giving tax credits to consumers who qualify. (I think you need to fall into a certain income bracket and it needs to be either your first or second home purchase something like that). Just leave it to the government to put out more programs that are going to allow people to take out more bunk loans and spend money they don't have. Borrowing + consumption = fail
