She earned her IFBB Pro card in 2021 after seven years of competing, becoming one of the few Women's Physique professionals in South America. Marianne von Gierke Dies at 40

Marianne Von Gierke, who competed in the Women's Physique division of the Chilean IFBB Pro League, has died at the age of 40. The news was confirmed on Wednesday, October 14, by Felipe Isaac Fierro and NPC Worldwide Chile. The cause of her death has not, however, been made public. The news came several weeks after her second appearance at the Mr. Olympia contest, ending a Competitive Journey which included two professional victories and a 13th-place finish at the Olympia. The reaction from the community was instant, with various tributes highlighting her Personal Achievements as a decade-long pioneer in her category. The Legacy Impact she had as the first Chilean Women's Physique athlete to compete on that stage goes beyond any consideration of her lost Future Prospects.

What NPC Worldwide Chile Confirmed: And What Remains Unknown

When the news became public on October 14, Felipe Isaac Fierro and NPC Worldwide Chile confirmed it together. Their statement shared her age, 40, and her status as a professional competitor, but did not provide more details. RXMuscle also paid tribute, noting her influence on bodybuilding in Chile and Latin America. Neither source has shared information about the cause of death. NPC Worldwide Chile has already made statements to support athletes and honor her legacy, but any future plans involving her name have not been announced. People are encouraged to watch for official updates.

A Decade-Long Rise to IFBB Pro Status

Von Gierke began competing in 2014 in the Magallanes region of Chile, far from the main bodybuilding circuits. After seven years of steady progress, she earned her IFBB Pro card in 2021, a rare achievement for South American Women's Physique athletes at the time. Her rise from regional amateur to professional was a major milestone in Chilean bodybuilding. Her journey also became a symbol of female empowerment, which helped build strong community support throughout her career.

Her Best Season: From the Arizona Pro to the 2026 Olympia

Before her second Olympia appearance, Von Gierke placed sixth at the 2026 Texas Pro, keeping her among the sport's top athletes, though she had not yet won. That changed on August 22, when she won the Rising Phoenix Arizona Pro, defeating Winsome White and Sarah Crail with a perfect judging score of three. This victory was a major highlight of her ten-year career and qualified her for the Olympia. At the 2026 Olympia, she finished 13th, and her journey inspired many tribute messages that recognized her impact on the Chilean community.

Representing Chile as a Lawyer With No Home Circuit

Von Gierke achieved her success without support from local competitions. In a 2024 interview, she explained that there were no Women's Physique events in Chile or South America, so she had to travel abroad for every title or placement. Her victories and Olympia appearances became important milestones for Chilean participation in the sport. Besides bodybuilding, she worked as a lawyer and balanced her professional career with international competition. This combination made her a standout figure in Magallanes and highlighted her impact on Chile's bodybuilding community, where local competitions were rare.

Seven years from first show to IFBB Pro card, then a win at Rising Phoenix and a 13th at the Olympia, she really did put South American Women’s Physique on the map.

RIP. Winning the Rising Phoenix and making it to the Olympia is an incredible achievement, especially having to travel outside Chile to compete. Condolences to her family and everyone who knew her.
