Great for movies in wide screen, useless for movies in 16.9. Black bars don't bother me that much to go out and buy a 21.9 tv.

I would get a projector that has that. You could use it in 16:9 and then drop another screen for 21:9. Would be great for movie nights.

For 3k you could get a 100" projector, receiver and a top of the line sound system.

Ya, true but a 1080P projector still takes up a good amount of that money for a decent one. Top of the line 1080P projector is well over 3k though.
